Fast Food Nation

I'm currently reading this book called Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser, it's been sitting up on my shelf for a few weeks. I started flicking through it last night...bad idea.

I couldn't sleep.

I'm never going to a McDonalds/Burger King/KFC type place ever again, in fact, I think I've been put off meat all together.

I've never thought much about what goes into the preparation of such food. I mean did you know that McDonald’s uses over 300 chemicals to make strawberry flavored any thing, there's more beef fat in a chick nugget than there is in a beef burger, and there's crap (you know the type I'm talking about) in the meat that they use.

The thought is enough to make me physically SICK! eew. I'm seriously considering going vegetarian now...I mean if I can't be sure of the origins on the meat I’m eating or what’s in it more to the point, how can I be sure that it's safe to eat?

There is some seriously damning information in this book that's really got me thinking.

And there's the section of the book that discusses the working conditions of Meat Packers, its sick and disgusting they way these people are treated! 15,000 American that work in these dangerous conditions are not even represented by a Union, I mean there work in such bad conditions, think machinery that can grind your bones to dust, exposure to chemicals that can burn your lungs, severed arms and fingers that have been chopped off, these people aren't even look after properly and they get below minimum wage to do the crappiest jobs, no medical insurance, it's truly disgusting!

And don't even get me started on the marketing to kids. It's criminal.

grrr...I feel physically SICK! But it’s an eye opener, it’s horrific yet it’s compelling and informative. I certainly won't be eating at fast food outlets in the foreseeable future!

OK. Enough about my rant!

Other than that, there's not a lot going on, although I think Ben wanting to go to Paris near Christmas, that would be kinda cool won't it? I hope that happens.

Work is now back to normal, which means hours of web surfing, more diary updates, a copy of Marie Claire in had my feet up on the table…ah the way it should be!
